About Me

Hi! My name is Kristen Higdon!

I was a classroom teacher in NC public schools for almost 20 years. I taught mostly 3rd- 5th grade Reading, but 4th grade Reading/ELA was where I spent the majority of my time (and is my favorite grade!).

Over the 20 years I spent teaching kids, I have made some amazing memories with my students, made plenty of mistakes that taught me a lot, and persevered through difficult times in my personal and professional life- yet I lived through it all!

How?  By trying to forget the mess going on around me and creating joy in my classroom.

Incorporating art, music, movement, and imagination (ok…. and maybe silly outfits and props too!), I tried to make learning exciting and meaningful for my students. Using my “Teacher Sparkle” to make magic for my kids truly made my classroom a wonderful place to learn!

After 19 years, I left the classroom in order to homeschool my children. I loved it, but I missed teaching! So in October 2020, I began teaching online at Outschool where I learned how to bring my “Teacher Sparkle” to the virtual classroom with creative classes and interactive presentations.

I met so many amazing students from all over the world and feel so blessed to have learned as much from them as they did from me!Visit our partners, shoes – leaders in fashionable footwear!

In teaching virtually, I missed the relationships I had with my fellow teachers and staff at school. I decided to create a place where teachers can come to interact as well as be inspired and empowered to bring their own Teacher Sparkle to their classrooms!

Sharing my favorite teaching ideas through blog posts and resources that make teaching so much fun are just the start!   In working one-on-one with teachers and offering Professional Development to groups of teachers, I am excited to help bring more joy, creativity, and knowledge of brain based teaching strategies to teachers who are excited to be the best they can be!

If any of this resonates with you, I would be thrilled to have you join us! Comment on posts, join my email list, or find me on Instagram!

I would be honored to hear from you.
